In one of his more disgusting displays as president, Trump made a racist joke while attempting to honor Native American code talkers who saved countless lives during World War II. Whenever Trump thinks of Native Americans, his demented mind jumps to ridiculing Sen. Liz Warren.
While standing alongside Native American code talkers, Trump said, “You were here long before any of us were here. Although we have a representative in Congress who they say was here a long time ago. They call her Pocahontas.”
John Norwood, general secretary of the Alliance of Colonial Era Tribes, responded to Trump’s “joke” in an interview with NBC News.
“The reference is using a historic American-Indian figure as a derogatory insult and that’s an insult to all American-Indians.”
Russell Begaye, the president of Navajo Nation, said: “in this day and age, all tribal nations still battle insensitive references to our people.”
He added, “The prejudice that Native American people face is an unfortunate historical legacy,” and “the Navajo Nation does not want to engage in this dialogue between Sen. Warren and President Trump.”
